Kindergarten Girl!

Today was a big day in our house!  Last days of the school year make me feel almost as mushy and emotional as those first August days do.  And, this one was extra so.  Lily is all done with Kindergarten!  And, just as I knew it would, it went too, incredibly fast!  I am not happy uttering the words (first grade)--check back with me in a few months.

Lily has blossomed this year...absolutely thrived!  I knew she would love school, I knew the academics would be easy for her, but what I didn't know is that she would end up being such a confident girl.  Bliss!

Some of the things I have loved most about Kindergarten Lily are:

-She is popular. And, I mean POPULAR...in the quiet, kind, effortless sorta way.  She cannot get to line each afternoon without hearing her name being shouted by her classmates.  There are some kids in her class that just love her..and, maybe are obsessed with her, too. :)
-She has learned to READ!  God bless those kindergarten teachers.
-She has gained the confidence I always hoped she would.  I have this Kodak moment memory in my head of her walking tall into the building all on her own, head poised, trusting that she knew which hallway to go down, never looking back.  I Love it!
-Lily doesn't like to give her teacher gifts.  I am a teacher, and I will give a gift or letter to all of her teachers every Christmas, every Teacher Appreciation Week, every Last Day of School, and any other time of year I feel extra appreciative...so she better get used to it! I tried to convince her to give her teacher one such gift by telling her that she could just run and put the treat on her teacher's desk after she put her backpack away, and then scurry back to seat to avoid the confrontation of the gift-giving.  Lily response?  We aren't allowed to run in school!
-On the rare occasion that I can actually show up to volunteer in her class, Lily thinks I am just the best mommy EVER!  She beams, and peeks at me out of the corner of her eye with that "isn't it awesome that MY mom is here in MY class for ME" look!  And, for that moment, I actually believe that she will never, ever be embarrassed to have me around.  Yeah, right?!  For now, I will savor her pride.
