Hometown Hero

Today was an inspirational and historical day, to say the least! We were able to welcome 2-time Silver Medalist, Christine Magnuson, home. The experience was an honor.

We enjoyed equating ourselves in some small way to the superhero that she is...we were mere feet away from her. Basking in her glow was just as amazing as showing Christine how very proud of her we are.

I can only hope that the pictures of today bring back bits of memories for our kids, especially for our girls! The 2008 Olympics were historical on such a grand scale, driving home the fact that girls can do anything boys can do...and sometimes even do it better. May they always remember the power they have.

Although it seems impossible for them to really, truly know why we supported today's parade, I like to think that they did. Those girls waved the American flags proudly, smiled and cheered, and looked on in wonder the same way we did.

Maybe that's because they were emulating what they saw us feeling...absolute pride, awe and appreciation for what one person can accomplish. I am all goose-bumpy all over again as I type this...and especially as I glance at the following picture. Grandma Susie had just waved at the Olympian's parents who were so kindly appreciative of us for supporting their daughter...and like her, we all had tears in our eyes.

Amazing. The power ONE person has to make a difference in the big, wide world.

Awesome. Good to see the community gather to celebrate the work that a local girl has put into becoming one of the world's premier athletes.
